The City of Nampa will receive nearly $43 million in federal funding to build a railroad overpass on Robinson Road at Greenhurst Road, according to a city news release reported by BoiseDev. City officials called it the largest transportation grant in Nampa's history.
The overpass would carry Robinson Road over the Union Pacific tracks and Greenhurst Road, so drivers and first responders no longer wait for passing trains at the crossing.
What the money pays for
The grant supports final design, right-of-way purchases and construction. The full project is estimated at about $53.7 million. The city and Nampa Highway District No. 1 will provide the 20% non-federal match.
The city says traffic on Robinson Road between Cruse Lane and Greenhurst Road is expected to triple to about 16,500 vehicles a day by 2050.
When it could happen
Construction is expected to start in 2030 and could take up to three years. Until then, the existing at-grade crossing stays in use.
